How Brockville Celebrated the Centennial
Like communities across the country, Brockville celebrated Canada's 100th birthday with pageantry and projects. There were beauty pageants and parades alongside the construction of new arenas and parks. It was a time of celebration, a celebration of the past and of the future, in Brockville and across the country. (Click on image for details).
On July 1, 1867 the British Parliament passed the British North America Act. This combined the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to become the Dominion of Canada. This medal commemorates that act of union. It was prepared by J.S. and A.B. Wyon SC of London, England for the Canadian government, to commemorate the Confederation of Canada in 1867.
Brockville celebrated Canada's Centennial with a full schedule of events. Here, local dignitaries, including Mayor Broome, are dressed in 1867-period costumes to celebrate Canada's milestone birthday.
