Digital Museum
A lot of work goes into the care of a museum collection. Museum staff are responsible for preserving objects, documents and photographs for future generations. The Brockville Museum receives about 400 new objects every year, and each piece is carefully catalogued, photographed, and properly stored, and all of the object's information is entered into an online database. The online database provides access to the museum's collection without putting the objects at risk since it reduces the need to physically handle objects in storage in the future.
OUR COLLECTION IS ONLINE!
In 2013 the Brockville Museum launched the "Open Drawer" Project, an initiative to put our entire collection online so it could be accessed from anywhere in the world while protecting the objects in our care for future generations. Thousands of volunteer hours have gone into this project. While new information and photographs are still be added regularly, the database is now searchable. We invite you to browse our collection to discover new and interesting things about Brockville's past.
MORE ABOUT OUR DATABASE
We are really excited about our online database! Below are two videos produced by HomeTown TV12 that show you how to search our database and what goes into creating a catalogue record in the database. This project would not have been possible without our amazing volunteers!
